Our Story
Killer Shrimp started out as a Michaels’ family legacy and has grown into one of the longest standing restaurant success stories in Los Angeles. Our story takes you from counter-culture icon and 60’s rocker Lee Michaels inventing the dish for his family, to making it for hungry Venice neighbors, on to a tiny, untested restaurant concept with one dish and one desert, and all the way to the Killer Shrimp our customers know and love today.
Family owned and operated since 1988, Killer Shrimp not only occupies a much larger menu with more than one option, but it has traded a view of the parking lot for one of Marina Del Rey’s best waterfront views. The only things that haven’t changed are our secret original recipe spices, our commitment to only serving the freshest seafood available, and how much we love our loyal clientele. (No, you’ll never guess the secret ingredients but keep asking!)
As we come close to celebrating 35 years in business, we don’t just think about how our family has grown over the years, we think about yours. The birthdays, the engagements, the baby showers, the bar mitvahs, the graduation parties, the quincenieras and all the other events you’ve shared with us over the last three decades. It’s an honor to make the food you love and create the space for your family to be with ours.

Ascend the double sweeping staircases to the second level and discover the newly remodeled Overkill Special Event Room flooded with natural light and a sparkling view of the Marina Harbor waterfront. Evening events offer a stunnning vantage of the harbor lights outside, while the elegant glow of candlelight abounds indoors. Perfect for wedding parties, banquets, proms, Bar Mitvahs, birthday and retirement parties, the space features a full bar, a dance floor and banquet seating for up to 366 guests. Fitted with state-of-the-art audio/visual equipment and a 102″ drop-down screen, the Overkill Room is the perfect destination for corporate affairs, seminars and conferences. Our trusted vendors and experienced Special Events staff can provide photography, florist services, staging, custom cakes and any event accommodation required to customize and personalize your unique event. With flexible banquet or circular-style seating arrangements, ample circulation and superior staff table service, you can feel confident that your event will be a brag-worthy experience your guests won’t soon forget.
